Author Biography: Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford (April 12, 1550 – June 24, 1604) was an Elizabethan courtier and poet. He was born at Castle Hedingham to John de Vere, 16th Earl of Oxford and Margery Golding. De Vere is most famous today as the alleged author of the works of William Shakespeare, a claim that most historians and literary scholars reject but which is supported by a vocal minority. |
